Cardinal Tagle imparts salient points of the Synod of Bishops on family

Speaking before a jam-packed Church of the Gesu inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City on November 11, 2015, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle gave the keynote address at the Special Theological Forum on the Synod of the Family. Tagle  disclosed the key points tackled at the recent Synod of Bishops on the Family, which he attended in Rome last October.

The synod, he said, discussed themes on domestic violence, violence against women, abuse, and marriage preparation. The 94-paragraph report, underscored the role of pastoral care in living up the Gospel’s teaching.
It also  touched on issues involving poor families, migrants, refugees, divorced parents and remarried couples, he said.

In the end, Tagle said that the synod highlighted the roles and strength of the modern family.

Garnering the required 2/3 of majority votes, all the recommendations made by the Synod of Bishops were approved.  They are now waiting for Pope Francis' response and the release of the final document.

The Special Theological Forum on the Synod of the Family was organized by the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Theology, Loyola School of Theology, and the East Asian Pastoral Institute.
