Library Facilities
RIZAL LIBRARY
The Rizal Library's vast collection of print and e-books, print and e-serials, and special resources such as historical and personal archives of Filipino writers and artists, and Filipiniana materials, it is a haven for students and researchers alike. In addition, it provides 24/7 access to its databases and repository. The Rizal Library has also expanded to provide not only services to access information but services that create, reformat and preserve information such as microfilming, scanning and indexing. Its major outputs are the newspapers on microfilm, newspapers on DVD and the Current Index to Philippine Periodical Articles (CIPPA).
LS BOOKSTORE
The Loyola Schools Bookstore is a one-stop shop for textbooks for classes as well as the publications of the Ateneo University Press. The store also includes University merchandise as well as an Apple Store.
Sporting Facilities
MORO LORENZO SPORTS COMPLEX
The Moro Lorenzo Sports Complex or “Moro” is located near the High School complex. The complex boasts of topnotch facilities such as indoor basketball court where the university’s basketball teams hold practices, indoor badminton and volleyball court, indoor track oval measuring approximately 200 meters, a weights room, and a fully air-conditioned sports medicine clinic. Other facilities include a Prayer Room of the Saints, the Blue Cow Cafeteria, locker rooms, and the Col. Mariano Yenko Audio-Visual Room.
BLUE EAGLE GYM
"The Blue Eagle Gym stands prominently at 213 feet wide and 281 feet long at the western end of the campus. For most Ateneans, the Gym is a special place where school spirit thrives, where Ateneans converge to cheer their team to victory. All sides of the gym are open to allow neutral ventilation. Moreover, it can seat a total of 7,500 people: It has 800 box seats, 1,400 reserve seats, and 5,300 bleachers. Its facilities include locker rooms for players, six bowling alleys, billiard room, air-conditioned radio and press box, and four snack bars."
LS SWIMMING POOL
The Loyola Schools Swimming Pool features a short-course swimming pool measuring 25 meters with 8 lanes. It is also the training grounds of the Ateneo Swim Team.
COLLEGE COVERED COURTS
"The Loyola Schools covered courts is a sports facility located east of the Loyola Schools building complex. It consists of the physical education office, dance area, eight (8) basketball courts, two (2) tennis courts, one (1) table tennis area, the P.E. Annex (for the martial arts area), a cafeteria that serves snacks, lunch and refreshments, ARPT shooting range, and the College Athletics Office."
Housing Facilities
UNIVERSITY DORMITORY
The University Dormitory is a 600-bed facility for the upperclassmen, divided into two wings, the North Wing and the South Wing, occupied by the men and the women, respectively. Resident students are provided with individual bed and mattress, cabinet for clothes and shoes, study table with a lamp, a chair, and book shelves. There are four occupants to a room. The rooms have built-in ceiling fans. Each room has a local telephone. Personal necessities. Restrooms with bath are common facilities located at each floor of the three buildings. Hot water is available for baths. Free telephones are provided for local calls, while payphones are available for long-distance calls. There is a prayer room and a resident chaplain. There are also several study rooms in the different buildings, all of which are air-conditioned. Recreation. A common recreation area contains billiard tables, ping pong tables, and a piano. There are adjacent TV and video rooms for resident student use. The spacious recreation room also functions as a multi-purpose hall for assemblies, masses, and parties.
Dining Facilities
GONZAGA CAFE
The Gonzaga Cafeteria is the main cafeteria in the Loyola Schools located at Gonzaga Hall. With two floors, there is a variety of cuisines available at various price points.
JOHN GOKONGWEI STUDENT ENTERPRISE CENTER
The John Gokongwei Student Enterprise Center (JSEC) is the world's first student entrepreneur mall where the students can start their own food businesses. Dining there would mean supporting student-run enterprises and dining al fresco.
UNIVERSITY DORM CAFETERIA
The Dining Hall of the University Dormitory is also open to non-dormers.
ISO CANTEEN
The ISO Canteen is located in the ISO Complex, where majority of the NGO offices are located.
LST CAFETERIA
The Loyola School of Theology (LST) also has a cafeteria usually frequented by the students of the Loyola School of Theology.
Art and Cultural Centers
ATENEO ART GALLERY
Widely recognized today as the first museum of Philippine modern art, The Ateneo Art Gallery was established in 1960 through Fernando Zóbel’s bequest to the Ateneo of his collection of works by key Filipino post war artists. Through the years other philanthropists and artists followed Zobel’s initiative, filling in the gaps so that the collection now surveys every Philippine art movement in the post war era: from neo-realism and abstract expressionism to today’s post-modern hybrid tendencies. The Ateneo Art Gallery hosts innovative exhibitions and public programs highlighting works from its permanent collection as well as works from other collections for special thematic shows. The Ateneo Art Gallery also spearheads an exciting overview of young Philippine contemporary art annually through the Ateneo Art Awards, now recognized as “the most prestigious prize for an emerging artist in the Philippines.
HENRY LEE IRWIN THEATER
"The Henry Lee Irwin Theater is the Ateneo’s premiere venue for the performance arts. With a seating capacity of 1,131, it is also the ideal venue for conventions, corporate promotional activities, graduations, and movie premieres. With a grand piano in the theater, it is also perfect for recitals and musical shows. The theater has a light and sound control booth, memory-controlled stage lighting system with two follow spots and cyclorama, complete sound system with recording and playback equipment, stage drapery and manual counterweight fly system, 35mm movie projection system with a 22 x 51 screen, 12 intercom stations, Yamaha grand piano, two dressing rooms with showers, and a centralized air-conditioning system."
RIZAL MINI THEATER
Rizal Mini Theater is a 250-seater theater where the University's various theater groups take residence.
ARETE: ATENEO'S CREATIVE HUB
Currently under construction, the Arete was built as a hub where the spirit of creativity and innovation is nurtured and cultivated, thus enabling Ateneans to multiply their talents, broaden their horizons, and create new wealth and insight from within and outside their chosen fields. It is to be the central space for stimulating creative, adaptive, and multi-dimensional thinking, thereby generating new ideas, products, and services that will drive a global economy.
FINE ARTS THEATER
The Fine Arts Theater is an 80-seater venue used as the laboratory of theater arts students in their fine arts classes. It is also used for staging plays, dance performances, poetry reading, book launching programs and other art-related events.
FINE ARTS EXHIBIT HALL
The Fine Arts Exhibit Hall is an open space that can be used for exhibits and performances such as plays and concerts. It is directly linked to the Fine Arts Dance Studio through a divider. During special events that need expansive space, the divider can be put down to accommodate more people.
Churches and Chapels
CHURCH OF THE GESÚ
Named after Jesus Christ and the mother church of the Society of Jesus in Rome, the Church of the Gesù is the Ateneo’s architectural gem located at the Sacred Heart Hill, the highest point of the campus. It was designed by Recio + Casas with an unusual and striking exterior and a traditional, airy interior. One side of the Church houses a side chapel dedicated to Mary in the mystery of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the Ateneo and of the Philippines, while another side chapel is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion committed to the Jesuits by the appearances of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary at Paray-le-Monial. The Church of the Gesù serves the major religious assemblies of the Ateneo: masses and liturgical events; the Feast of St. Ignatius and similar celebrations, school openings and baccalaureate services, confirmations, first communions and ordinations.
IMMACULATE CONCEPCION CHAPEL
"The Immaculate Conception Chapel is the sanctuary of students, faculty, and staff of the Loyola Schools. The chapel’s overall design was inspired by the Chapel of Notre Dame in Haute Saone, France and the Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University in Washington, U.S.A. On the sanctuary wall, stained glass windows in varying shades of blue and yellow symbolize the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the altar rests fragments from the bones of the Jesuit’s “boy saints” – Aloysius Gonzaga, John Berchmans, and Stanislas Kostka, after whom halls of the Ateneo have been named. The relics were gifts to the new chapel from the Jesuits in Rome. The chapel’s main distinguishing feature is its revolving cross with a crucified Christ on one side and a resurrected Christ on the other. The Focolare Carpentry Shop sculpted the crucified Christ while Fr. Rene Javellana, S.J. worked on the Byzantine-type icon of the resurrected Christ. Other features of the chapel are the Blessed Sacrament room or Adoration Chapel where people can have a more intimate prayer time with God and two reconciliation rooms at either side of the main door of the chapel where people can choose between face to face confession and confession through the screened confessional box."
LST CHAPEL
The LST chapel is conducive to prayer and meditation, as well as for occasional small-group liturgies. The design, courtesy of Jesuit artist Fr. Rene Javellana, S.J., features Florentine glass windows that depict themes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius through its abstract melding of colors. The chapel proudly contains the low altar that houses a first-class relic of St. Ignatius of Loyola, which was given to LST by Fr. General Peter Hans Kolvenback when he approved construction of the building. Another special feature of the building is the darkened passageway that leads into the special light of the chapel through the name of Jesus.
