Ateneo collaboration book wins in 2015 Migration Advocacy & Media Awards

Many Journeys, Many Voices, a Tribute to Filipina Overseas Workers,” a collaborative, multi-disciplinary book by the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALiWW), Ateneo Art Gallery and Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) was awarded Best Print (Book) at the 2015 Migration Advocacy & Media Awards (MAM Awards).  Established in 2011, MAM Awards recognizes the role of media in raising public awareness on Filipino migration issues and development.

The book delves on the “feminization” of Filipino migrant labor from the perspectives of 3 interdisciplinary studies: sociology, literature, and art.    Authored by Edna Manlapaz, Czarina Saloma, and Yael Buencamino , “Many Journeys, Many Voices, a Tribute to Filipina Overseas Workers”  is the result of the collaborative work of 3 Ateneo centers: IPC did the research and interviews of Filipina overseas workers, ALiWW selected the narratives and translated them into English, and Art Gallery organized the artworks depicting the different facets of migrant lives.

MAM Awards is organized by  the Commission on Filipino Overseas as part of the annual celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day in December..  The awarding ceremonies will be on December 18, 2015 in Quezon City.
